The Divine in the Mirror

Blog by Rev Susan/

The older I become, the easier it is for me to brush off the opinions others have of me.  It didn't use to be that way.  I used to take things people said personally and incurred many internal bruises.  Until recently, I would never even consider leaving my house without makeup!  With age does come more ease about who I am...at least most of the time.  Yet, isn't it interesting to watch our ego get in the way when we buy in or attach to what other people think and say about us? I had someone tigger me the other day and I had to stop and pause and just remind myself that what they said was not true.  At some level, we still haven't completely accepted the fact that we really are okay just the way we are.  In his book, The Four Agreements, author Don Miguel Ruiz says, "Don't take anything personally.  When you are immune to the opinion and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering".  So I say, brush off others opinions of who you are...you know the truth about you.  You are a Divine child of God and each day you are given an opportunity to discover that.  How?  Just look into the mirror.  What do you see? When we are mindful of our divine nature, the opinios others hold become meaningless.  As long as we are living, speaking and Being true to ourselves, what others think and say cannot hurt us.  Remember that old saying, "Sticks and stones can break my bones, but names will never hurt me."  Look into the mirror and see the Christ Light and the beautiful you you are!!
